Building a Computer

The idea would be to build a really simple CPU and video card, potentially on breadboards or perfboard, and then write simple programs for it.

Likely will be a 65C02 or Z80-based system, as these seem to be quite common with a lot of resources available in the community.

Alternatively, the RC2014 project has already created a highly modular, Z80-based platform that might be good to use instead of building one from first-principals if I feel like I’m more interested in the software side than the hardware.
